Subscription Model ✨

📊 This page describes the TidyShelves subscription tiers, limits, and how they map to a tenant (account).

🧾 Each subscription is per tenant account, not per individual user or device.

🎁 The paid tiers - Solo, Essentials, Pro, and Business - include a 14-day free trial per tenant.

🧩 One tenant. Multiple people. Multiple devices. All sharing the same smart inventory.

1. Core Concepts

1.1 Tenant

  • A tenant represents one account (for example a home, family, team, or business).
  • All data (items, folders, media) belong to the tenant.
  • All users and devices under that tenant share the same inventory and subscription limits.

1.2 Users

  • A user is a person who can sign in.
  • Each tier defines how many users (seats) can be attached to the same tenant.
  • Additional users for the same tenant are onboarded via invitation and must respect the tier’s user limit.

1.3 Devices

  • A device is a phone, tablet, or computer that stays signed in to TidyShelves.
  • Each tier defines how many devices can actively sync for a tenant.
  • All devices share the same tenant data and follow the same item and media limits.

1.4 Items and Photos

  • An item is a single inventory entry in the system.
  • Tiers define:
    • Maximum number of items per tenant.
    • Maximum number of photos per item.

4. Account Model Summary

  • All limits (items, users, devices, photos per item) are per tenant account.
  • Every user attached to the tenant sees the same inventory.
  • When subscription tiers change (upgrade or downgrade), limits adjust, but data remains in place.
  • Enforcement of limits happens on the server and is surfaced to the client via configuration and error responses.

5. Frequently Asked Questions

5.1 Is the limit per user or per tenant?

Limits are per tenant account.
All users and devices you invite into that tenant share the same item limit, device limit, and features.
This keeps billing predictable and tenant-aware.

5.2 What is the difference between users and devices?

  • Users are people who can sign in (each user has their own identity).
  • Devices are the physical clients (for example iPhone, iPad, Mac, Windows PC) that stay signed in and can sync data.

Higher tiers allow more users and more devices, but all of them still operate on the same shared tenant inventory.

5.3 How do additional users join an existing tenant?

Additional users do not create their own tenant for shared accounts. Instead:

  1. The existing tenant owner (or admin) sends an invite from within the app.
  2. The invited person follows the invite link and signs in.
  3. The backend attaches that user’s identity to the inviting tenant, if there is remaining capacity in the tier.

This keeps the tenant model consistent and prevents accidental creation of separate tenants for the same household or business.

5.4 What happens if we hit an item, user, or device limit?

  • The app shows a clear message when you reach any limit (items, users, devices, or photos per item).
  • You can either:
    • Free up space (for example by deleting items or removing unused devices), or
    • Upgrade to a higher tier to increase the limits.

The backend always validates limits, even if a client is temporarily out of date, so the system stays consistent.

5.5 Can we upgrade or downgrade plans?

Yes.

  • Upgrades: take effect immediately and increase limits for the same tenant.
  • Downgrades: are allowed, but if your current usage exceeds the new tier’s limits, the client will show guidance on what needs to be cleaned up or archived.

In all cases, data is preserved; the main change is which actions are allowed going forward under the new subscription tier.
